THE WEEK'S ITINERARY:

SUNDAY AUGUST 28, 2005

- 8PM = A grand Welcome Dinner, held at the cloister of San Lazzaro at the church “Ai Frati” in Camaiore. Official greetings from the welcoming authorities - the Comune di Camaiore, the Archaeological Group of Camaiore, the Province of Lucca, the Italian Association of Bonuccelli nel Mondo, etc…and Preview of the art show of four Bonuccelli artists. Dinner cost: 25 euros per person.

MONDAY AUGUST 29

- 9AM = A 1-2 hr class of the Italian language for English speakers taught by Veronica Arrosti. Will be held at the Sala Bianchi in Camaiore, but please meet at the main piazza in Camaiore (San Bernardino) and we will walk to the Sala Bianchi promptly at 9AM (so might be good to come to the piazza a little early :)

- 5:30PM = Historic Center of Camaiore walking tour - led by archaeologist Luca Santini. Will also depart from main piazza (San Bernardino) in Camaiore. English translation provided.

TUESDAY AUGUST 30

- 9AM = A guided hike to the hilltop ruins of Montecastrese, the original castle town of the Bonuccelli on the hill above Camaiore (led by archaeologist Luca Santini, King Lord God of All Things Historical in the Area) for a viewing and explanation of the ruins of Castle Mountain. It’s quite overgrown with olive trees, etc., and a tough walk at times, but there are remains of castle towers and habitations, really quite interesting. English translation provided by Veronica Arrosti. (3km walking plus 1km around the ruins).
During the walk, a terracotta work of art by Vincenzo Bonuccelli representing the “Madonna Sotto gli Organi” (an ancient piece of art taken 800 years ago from Montecastrese and moved to Pisa) will be placed at the site of the ancient Montecastresan church wall at the ruins, with benediction. Fantastic! This excursion will depart from the Badia (the ancient church) in Camaiore. Please be at the Badia church by 9AM for departure, we will ride in numerous vehicles up to the trailhead and begin hiking from there.

WEDNESDAY AUGUST 31

FREE-DAY OR OPTIONAL EXCURSION:
- 9AM = Boat tour leaving from the port of Viareggio to the CinqueTerre, returning at 6PM. This is a tour which departs daily from the port of Viareggio to the incredible 5 towns perched on cliffs along the Italian Riviera to the north. As of the time of printing of this schedule, I don’t have access to prices, etc., but they will be posted in the lobby of Locanda Lemonache Hotel in Camaiore by the time you read this. Or ask Dominic :) I believe the boat tour stops at PortoVenere and one of the larger towns of CinqueTerre, and there are a few hours shoreleave at each stop before your return past the mountains of Carrara. Please be at the Viareggio port pier boarding area around 8:30AM to make sure you have time to buy a ticket for the 9AM departure. I will be there in person to facilitate ticket buying. The boarding area is at the end of the Passeggiata where it meets the main canal of the port, in Viareggio.

THURSDAY SEPTEMBER 1

- 9AM = A 1-2 hr class of the Italian language for English speakers taught by Veronica Arrosti. Will be held at the Sala Bianchi in Camaiore, but please meet at the main piazza in Camaiore (San Bernardino) and we will walk to the Sala Bianchi promptly at 9AM (so might be good to come to the piazza a little early :)

- 11AM = A class of traditional Tuscan cooking and cuisine (12 people per class), taught at the Hotel Locanda Le Monache in Camaiore. English translation provided by professora Veronica Arrosti. After the class we will have a buffet of all the food we have just created! Cost per person: 30 euros at time of printing, but perhaps a bit less

- 5:30PM = A goodwill European soccer game of Italian Bonuccelli versus World Bonuccelli hosted in the Campo Sportivo Raffaelli, in the Magazzeno area of Lido di Camaiore - all sexes, all ages, just for fun. Refereed by professional Massa soccer player Vitaliano Bonuccelli of Viareggio. Please meet at the Campo Sportivo Raffaelli in Lido di Camaiore.

FRIDAY SEPTEMBER 2

- 9AM = A 1-2 hr class of the Italian language for English speakers taught by Veronica Arrosti. - 8:30PM = Cloister of San Lazzaro at the “Ai Frati” in Camaiore: a Dinner with Latin American guitar concert. Professional guitarrist, singer, and composer Luis Bonuccelli of Buenos Aires, Argentina will perform a concertino of traditional and contemporary latin guitar music! Dinner cost: 25 euros per person.

Simultaneously and at the same location, a reception and show of 4 Bonuccelli artists from both Italy and America (Luciano Bonuccelli - photographer, Vincenzo Bonuccelli - painter, Dominic Bonuccelli - photographer, Deborah Bonuccelli - painter), all artists present. One last night at Ai Frati to pickup an Italian keepsake before you go :) Art and art-cards available for sale.

SATURDAY SEPTEMBER 3

- 10:30AM = Catholic mass in English and Italian by Father Gary Lombardi (grandson of Ida Bonuccelli) of the parrish in Petaluma, CA. The mass will be held at the ancient church of the Badia in Camaiore, which dates from 758 AD.

- 12PM NOON = And finally, an Arrivederci Cocktail Party, held at the Teatro dell’Olivo in Camaiore.
